Grand Entry
June 22, 2008
Our oldest granddaughter Delaney (8 years) finished up another year of
horse camp with Lynn and Emily Honey at Riverbottom Stables. Not only did
she learn a ton with Welsh Pony Impy, but they carried their first American
flag for the grand entry of the Showdeo. It's amazing what kids can learn in
one week from someone who is not their mom or grandpa!
Bon Voyage!
June 22, 2008
Good to Kristi Gates and Dan Patch of Snow Mountain Farm as they pull out
of the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany, Oregon headed east. Kristi and
Cassidy Gates will be showing on the east coast this summer and it will
sure be fun to see how some of these Big River ponies stack up over there.
We are so proud of what Kristi has done with Dan. As a colt, we always did
feel that he had a spotlight on him. Kristi and Snow Mountain Farm were
able to take him to that next level and prove that it's so. Dan is campaigning
for another year as the sec A National Champion Stallion. Good luck and
travel safe!
Showtime!
June 22, 2008
What a feeling to be at the OWPS show and have more than 8 Big River
Ponies making a splash! The grandkids all made their Pony Show debut:
Delaney, Mason and Kora on Glitter (Kora is our warm-up and cool-down girl
at the ripe age or two). They were great in the lead-line and walk-trot
classes. Kelsey Smith and Strawberry Shortcake were great in the novice
horse classes. Shortcake's first time to town went smooth, thanks to the
great job that Kelsey's been doing with her. Emily and Lynn Honey made our
name sound good by showing Catamount, Polecat and Beau. They made us
all look good!
Kristi Gates of Snow Mountain Farm was the big winner with Dan Patch,
OWPS 2008 Supreme Champion. Congratulations!!
A big thanks to supporters and coaches: Kristi & Cassidy Gates, Lynn &
Emily Honey, the Smiths, the Jones', the Helms, Margarita, and the families
at the show who make a point to help each other and really have fun.
Where champions are born!
August 17, 2007
Congratulations to Kristi Gates and Dan Patch. Dan is ranked #1 in the
nation and they are headed to CA for the American National. Good Luck!!
See Dan's sire Tom Cat and check out his three full sibs: Lil' Loo,
Catamount and Sparky.
Horse camp and buckaroo days
August 15, 2007
The kids are making these ponies earn their keep! Delaney spent a week at
Riverbottom Stables with Lynn Honey at horse camp, where she learned a
ton and was surprised by the arrival of her cousins from London. The next
day they all competed in gaming at Scio Buckaroos and brought home a
slew of ribbons.
New bronc peeler
August 1, 2007
Well they're not exactly broncs, but Kelsey Smith is doing a great job riding
our young colts. Kelsey is 13 years and is working with Doug to get the kids
started right.
Brand new babies
June 1, 2007
It seems like we have a new face in the pasture every morning. Tootsie
(Evans Childs Play) was the first to foal. Mason and Delaney were here to
welcome the new one, so that was very exciting. As of today there are two
pony colts, one pony filly and one Quarter/pony horse colt. He is quite a
looker, our first Quarter cross. He's out of Fanny and has an amazing hip on
him. Just little Pushkin is left to foal, so we're keeping an eye on her. Check
back soon for the announcement and more pictures of these little guys.
Broke to ride
April 15, 2007
We're really having fun with these young ponies, but they need eager kids to
cover some country with! There are only two kids here and lots of ponies
looking for a kid who needs a great first pony. The superstars right now are:
- PoleCat - he's in Hood River now learning to carry an English saddle, glide
over jumps and preparing for the show season.
- Umatilla Tomcat - he's in the Corvallis area, putting those flashy looks to
good use and getting broke to ride.
- Lil' Loo - she's already collecting ribbons and has claimed the title of
Reserve Champion Filly in Oregon.
- Bo Jangles - Now that his buddy Polecat is out getting lessons, Bo has
stepped up.
Time to train
March 1, 2007
Everyone keeps asking for broke ponies, so we're busy getting more of the
herd under saddle and broke to drive. We have four geldings and seven
fillies that are starting school. Even Delaney (7 yrs) and Mason (4 yrs) are in
on the fun. They are riding some of the green ponies and getting along great.
Of course it's hard to convince them to ride ponies other than their own
fillies: Strawberry Shortcake and Melody. Check back soon for more action
photos.
Rainy days
Sunday, October 29, 2006
We are in the valley so of course the rain has started to start fall. The boys
are in the barn. Good thing we have it finished so they can stay nice and dry.
Tomcat and Catamount
The Grandkids
September 2006
Delaney and Mason have both started school, so I suppose it's time for
some of these young colts to go to school, too.
New Grandbaby!
June 2006
We are proud to announce that we have one more little one in the family.
Kora was born on June 9, 2006. So of course we'll need to breed a perfect
pony for the perfect little girl! There is a request in for a bay gelding. We'll see
what we can do. The best bet this year is Tootsie (Evans Childs Play).
